Week of Aug 29-Sept 2

This week we are learning to (W.A.L.T.):

• Classify different genres of fiction
• Use a Word Origins Dictionary to discover where specific words came from
• Respond to literature through Reading Response starters
• Apply our knowledge of a numebr grid to fin differences with two-digit numbers
• Solve problems using money
• Build stories step-by-step from our seed ideas rather than summarizing them
• Analyze inventions and categorize them based on their purpose (health and safety, convenience, travel, communication, food, or tools).

REMINDER:  Tuesday is Hari Raya...no school.

Back to School Night Power Point

It was wonderful to see those of you who were able to make it last night.  For those of you who were not able to make it, please take a look at our Power Point from the evening.

August 22-26

We are off to a great start and last week the children did a wonderful job adapting to new routines. 

This week we will learn to:

• use our Reader's Notebook as a way to keep a log for books we have read or would like to read and as a way to write about the books we are reading.
• make connections with the books we are reading.  Students will have to connect the text to their own life and then use evidence in the book to support their connections.
• generate more writing about a person, event, or experience that is special to them.
• classify writing topics as watermelon stories or seed stories
• make and analyze number grid puzzles
• compare two sets of data
• use a website to generate a bar graph of data collected on students' names
• create a timeline of inventions

REMINDER:
Back to School Night is this Thursday, August 25th.  3rd grade presentations are from 7:15-7:45.

The First Day of School

YEAH!!!  We made it!  Our first day of school couldn't have gone smoother.  The children did a wonderful job today learning new routines, catching up with 'old' friends, and making 'new' friends.   

Open House

It was lovely to meet everyone today at our Open House! 

Just a few reminders for Monday:

• please wear PE uniforms as we have PE on the first day of school
• bring your backpack
• bring your SAS card
• old lunch coupons may still be used
• once all you have used all old lunch coupons please start using SAS card

In addition, please note the typo on the bottom of the schedule where special teachers are mentioned...our PE teacher is Ms. Lawrence.
