End of the First Semester

Students have surely had an amazing learning adventure during the first semester of third grade!

Reading
Our units focused on how to build a reading life, follow characters through the book, and having deeper conversations about the books we read.

Writing
Students were exposed to writing small moment stories about their own life, using poetic devices to craft poetry, and follow the paragraph structure to tell about facts or persuade a reader of their opinion.

Math
Basic math facts (addition, subtraction, and multiplication) recall is essential as well as being able to explain the mathematic concept behind them.  These facts are then applied to problem solving, which also has a key component of being able to explain the process of how the problem was solved.

Science
Students should know the parts of the plant life cycle, be able to identify a germinated seed, and developed knowledge of the hydroponics technique used to grow plants.

Social Studies
Inventions and how these inventive technologies have changed over time was a major concept covered in this unit.   Students not only showed these changes in a Google presentation and/or a timeline, but they also needed to be able to explain in words how their particular piece of technology changed.  The culminating assessment was the creation of their own invention and presenting it to their peers at the Invention Convention.
